UW Health announces next-day home delivery for Dane County prescriptions  

UW Health has announced a recent change in how they deliver prescriptions to homes.

UW Health can now deliver prescriptions to a patient’s home in Dane County the next day after the order is placed — for free, according to Aaron Webb, director of ambulatory care pharmacy services at UW Health.

“We are trying to make this as convenient as possible for patients, by meeting them where they are,” he said.

In the past, the prescription home delivery system took several days. UW Health used outside vendors such as the United States Postal Service and UPS, but starting in late 2025, the pharmacy team contracted with Courier Express and housed them at the Pharmacy Services Building in Middleton. UW Health is their only client, and prescriptions are filled and processed in one location.

In a news release, the health system said in the last six months they have delivered around 100,000 prescriptions next-day. UW Health also delivers medications to all of Wisconsin, as well as several other states, and most deliveries typically arrive in a matter of days.

Once a prescription is sent out for delivery, patients will receive a text message. When it is delivered, the courier will take a photo and send it in a text message confirming that the prescription has been dropped off. The service applies to all medications, but some require a patient to be home to sign for the prescription, for example, controlled substances.

“From our perspective, anything can be delivered to a patient’s house,” he said. “A patient’s time is important, and the last thing you want to worry about is having to go to the pharmacy, especially when you are busy.”
