Section in the Policy and Bylaws amended during Richland Board Meeting
RICHLAND CENTER, WIS. (WRCO / WRCE) A section in the Policy & Bylaws that governed specific Richland School Board procedures concerning when the District closes, delays, or dismisses early due to inclement weather or other extenuating circumstances was amended at last night’ (Wednesday) board meeting.
The policy and bylaws stated that all co-curricular and evening school activities are canceled unless the District Administrator determines that conditions have improved sufficiently to allow such activities to proceed. The District also does not permit outside organizations to use District facilities on those days unless approval is granted under the same discretionary standard.
Administrator Steve Board stated that without corresponding Board-level procedures, it could create the appearance of a double standard if a Board meeting were held on an evening when other District activities are canceled, and when outside groups are also prohibited from using District facilities under those same conditions. Ensuring the safety of Board members, Administration, news media, and the public is of the utmost priority, and aligning Board practice with District operational policy strengthens consistency and clarity.
The proposed revision to the policy incorporates this alignment while maintaining some discretion when conditions improve. The amendment passed unanimously.
