MADISON, Wis. (Civic Media) – The 2024 WIAA State Football Championships are being held at Camp Randall Stadium Thursday and Friday, Nov. 21 and 22.
14 teams from around Wisconsin will compete for championships in the state’s seven football divisions for 11-player football.
On Thursday, four games will be held, starting with the Division 7 championship at 10 a.m. and finishing with the Division 4 championship at 7 p.m.
Potosi/Cassville (13-0) will take part in its first championship game as a co-op in the Division 7 game. Cassville won state in 1982 in Division 6 and was a runner-up finisher in 1980 (D-5), 1987 (D-6), and 1993 (D-6). Potosi made one trip to state, a runner-up finish in Division 7 in 2012.
The unnamed co-op will face Edgar (12-1), 8-time state champions and defending champs in Division 7. The Wildcats have won titles in four different divisions in the school’s history, dating back to a D-4 run in 1979. This is Edgar’s 15th championship game appearance.
In Division 6, Grantsburg (12-1) makes its first appearance at state in football after winning the Lakeland Conference this season. The Pirates will battle Lomira (11-2), another new team in the state finals. The Lions were tri-champs of the Wisconsin Flyway Conference. The game will kick off at 1 p.m.
Division 5 features two teams who were at the state finals a season ago in different divisions and will kick off at 4 p.m. Stratford (13-0) won its 9th state championship, and second consecutive title, last year in Division 6. The Tigers move up to D-5 and will take on last year’s Division 4 runner-up, Wrightstown (12-1). The Tigers – a moniker shared by both teams – are seeking a fourth all-time championship in the school’s fifth title game appearance.
The Thursday nightcap, a 7 p.m. kickoff, is the Division 4 state championship, which will be heard on WRJN and WSCM as well as on the free Civic Media app. Racine St. Catherine’s (13-0) is back to the state championship for the first time since winning the D-4 title in 2018. Baldwin-Woodville’s (12-1) last state appearance was in 1994. The Blackhawks are looking for their third all-time title and first since 1992.
On Friday, the final three games of the high school football season will be played. The Division 3 title match-up is Notre Dame (13-0) versus Catholic Memorial (11-2). The two programs faced each other in championship games in 2015 and 2016. Catholic Memorial is making its 10th appearance in a state final. The Crusaders also won four WISAA titles in 10 appearances before joining the WIAA. Notre Dame is making its fifth trip to state seeking its second championship. The Tritons appeared in four WISAA championships, winning once. The game kicks off at 10 a.m. Friday.
Division 2 features last year’s Division 3 champion, Rice Lake (11-2), taking on undefeated Slinger (13-0). Rice Lake is at state for the ninth time, including three trips in the last four years. The Warriors are seeking their fourth state title. Slinger went to state two prior times, in 1997 and 1998, winning a Division 3 championship in 1998. The game kicks off at 1 p.m.
Wisconsin’s last 11-player football game of the season will feature two of the state’s powerhouse programs. Bay Port (11-2) will face Muskego (9-4) in a rematch of the 2019 D-1 title game. That 2019 appearance is the only time Bay Port has made it to state. Muskego, winners of the 2019 game, are back to the finals for the fourth time looking for the program’s third championship. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. Friday.
You can attend the games at Camp Randall Stadium and buy tickets at the gate. More information on seating, parking, tickets, etc. can be found on the WIAA’s championship website.
