TREMPEALEAU, Wis. (WLCX) – Stacey Klein announced Monday that she would be ending her bid for U.S. Senate and instead running for the state’s 32nd Senate District seat.

The announcement sets up a contest with incumbent state Sen. Brad Pfaff.

Klein, a Republican, had originally announced her U.S. Senate campaign last September, before frontrunner Eric Hovde entered the race.

Currently, Klein is on the Trempealeau County Board of Supervisors, and is also the treasurer for the Republican Party of Trempealeau County.

“I have decided to focus on this State Senate seat,” Klein said. “I look forward to a healthy debate on the issues and taking the concerns of our friends and neighbors to the Wisconsin State Senate.”

State Senate District 32 covers the Coulee Region, including La Crosse, Vernon, and parts of Monroe and Trempealeau counties. Pfaff, who ran for Congress and lost to Republican Derrick Van Orden in 2022, has already announced he is running again for state Senate and won’t run for Congress again.

The 2024 Fall Primary is on Aug. 13, while the 2024 General Election will be held on Nov. 5.
