Highland defeats Boscobel, then falls to Pittsville in baseball action

The Highland Cardinals advanced to the Sectional championship game and ran into a buzz saw with Pittsville. Local teams advancing to the state championship weekend include Reedsburg in D2 and Fennimore in D3.

BLAIR-TAYLOR, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – Pittsville won a WIAA Division 4 baseball sectional yesterday hosted by Blair-Taylor High School.  The Panthers won the opening game of the day 2-1 over Blair Taylor.

In the other semi-final, Highland defeated Boscobel 9-2. Koyer Zadrazil was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals after working into the 6th inning. John Dreischmeier came on in relief to help the Cardinals nail down the win. Jack Terrell was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, and Landis Newbury was 2 for 3 with a double.  Landon Haessley pitched for the Bulldogs with relief work from Tyler Miller. Boscobel had 6 hits and committed 8 errors.  They saw the season end at 13-13 after a great run in the WIAA tournament in which they earned a regional championship.

The Cardinals advanced to the Sectional championship game and ran into a buzz saw with Pittsville.  The Panthers scored 5 runs in the first inning and later 7 runs in the 3rd as they logged a 13-3 5 inning win. Ben Friday was the winning pitcher and Logan Zickert hit a 2 run home run to lead the way. Wes Kraisinger and Bennett Smith both had rbi’s for the Cardinals. Davis Dorata and John Dreischmeier both pitched for Highland. After winning a WIAA regional championship last week, the Cardinals saw their season end at 15-13.

Pittsville will play at the WIAA baseball tournament next week in Appleton and the team is now 22-7 on the season.

Local teams advancing to the state championship weekend include Reedsburg in D2 and Fennimore in D3.
