Barron County officials are asking area residents for their input on the 2025-2030 Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.

Residents can provide their comments through an online public input survey. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and will be open through June 27.

The goal of the survey is to inform Barron County officials on what residents enjoy about the current recreation opportunities and what future improvements they would like to see. Results from the survey will inform the development of the five year recreation plan. The community input is also required for securing federal and state grant funding through programs like the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

The survey asks residents for input on if current opportunities like biking, camping, swimming, fishing and outdoor sports meet both their needs and the needs of visitors. It also asks them how often they use facilities like County boat landings, playgrounds, the Ice-Age Trail, ATV routes, and Cedar Lake Forest. Residents can also submit their own ideas for new outdoor recreation assets the county does not already have.

The Barron County Board of Supervisors will consider the adoption of the new outdoor recreation plan later this year after reviewing the community input they receive.

A number of other municipalities in the Northwest Wisconsin region are also updating their long term plans. Dunn County is currently working on an update to its 20 year comprehensive plan. Transportation officials are also working on long range transportation plans, including a potential rail corridor between Eau Claire and the Twin Cities.
