Smalley steps down from Rapids’ Boys helm

For the third time in four years, the Wisconsin Rapids Boys Basketball team will be welcoming a new head coach as Jack Smalley has stepped down from the Raider’s program.

Smalley took over the top spot for the 2023-2024 season and compiled an 11-39 overall record and was 4-20 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference during his time with the Raiders.

Licenses need renewing

For those that enjoy partaking in the outdoor recreation opportunities that Wisconsin has to offer, they need to renew their licenses for the 2025 year as all old licenses expired by March 31.

An individual needing to renew any license can do so online or where licenses are sold.

Rapids Softball sweeps Huskies to open season

The Wisconsin Rapids Softball team opened the season on Thursday, March 28 when it hosted Eau Claire North in a doubleheader and came away with victories in both contests.

Rapids and North played 12 innings in the opening game where Nolita Carroll hit an RBI single to shallow left field to give Rapids a 7-6 victory, while in game 2, the Raiders leaned on freshman pitcher, Payton Jaminski as she made her first career varsity start where she got the win by striking out 11 and scattering three hits.

Sydney Holberg hit a pair of in-the-park home runs, to go along with a triple and single and four RBI.

Brewers struggling out of the gate

It has been a tough start to the season for the Milwaukee Brewers as they were swept in its first series of the year with the New York Yankees, but bounced back to take two of three from the Kansas City Royals.

The Yankees lived up to their nickname of the “Bronx Bombers” as they pounded out 15 home runs in the three-game stand.

The Royals took the opening game of the series over the Brewers. Milwaukee got its first win of the season with a 5-0 shutout. They won the series in extra innings on Wednesday, April 2.
