Baldwin Launches ‘Hands Off Medicaid Tour’ Across Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (Civic Media) – U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin kicks off her “Hands Off Medicaid Tour” today, challenging what she calls Republican plans to cut Medicaid funding. The tour, which begins in La Crosse, aims to highlight the potential impact of cuts on over 1.2 million Wisconsinites who rely on the program.
- La Crosse: Monday, March 17
- Eau Claire: Tuesday, March 18
- Madison and Racine: Thursday, March 20
- Waukesha: Friday, March 21
Baldwin claims Republicans intend to reduce Medicaid funding to finance tax cuts for wealthy individuals. “We need to show the President and Congressional Republicans what cuts to Medicaid would mean to Wisconsinites,” Baldwin said in a statement.
However, GOP officials dispute the claim. House Speaker Mike Johnson recently told CNN, “We’re not going to cut into those programs that way. We’re talking about finding efficiencies in every program, not cutting benefits for people who rightly deserve them.”
The tour this week is said to feature testimonials from Medicaid recipients about the program’s importance to their health and well-being. The exact location of the events later in the week are not yet known.
