GREEN BAY, Wis. (WGBW) – Deep frost in the ground paired with significant rainfall may cause some flooding, especially in areas around rivers and streams.

Heavy rain that recently hit Wisconsin brought over 1″ to places.

With deep frost still in the ground, all of this precipitation is now making it’s way into rivers, rising them.

The Sheboygan River is currently in a Flood Warning.

Minor flooding will occur, covering docks and piers. The river is expected to reach a crest of 8.2 Thursday evening. Then it’ll fall below flood stage by Friday morning.

As water bodies swell, remaining ice is breaking up, especially with mild temperatures. This can cause ice to jam and dam up the water. Which leads to water upstream overflowing banks and flooding along possible Wisconsin rivers and streams.
